The Shocking Moment That Pushed Me to Find Balance
What healthy changes have you made in your life, and how did you get motivated to make it happen?

From Food to Balance and from Balance to Liberation
My Background
Since I was little, food has always been meaningful to me. Being raised in Spain, where the Mediterranean diet is considered some of the healthiest foods in the world, I was lucky to learn multiple recipes from my mother and grandmother.
Food in Spain is considered like a social ritual. So, I see it as a time of gathering with family and friends, having a wonderful time, exchanging laughs and stories, and having a lot of fun, all while having succulent plates like tapas and good wine.
However, the key component of why people there maintain a healthy style of life is not only the placebo effect, but balance. The placebo effect of enjoying and making time for social activities is a great contribution to mental and emotional health. Nevertheless, balance in combination with a healthy routine is very important.
How do Spanish people incorporate balance in their daily routine?
Many people go to the market to buy fresh and organic food that they cook on a daily basis. They have a light breakfast in the morning, like a glass of orange juice along with toast with fresh tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil. They walk to work if they live downtown, often returning at lunchtime for some homemade food. Occasionally, people make time after work to meet with friends for a coffee, or just a light dinner like a tapa in a bar. This social gathering linked to food is what helps people to be mentally, emotionally, and physically healthier. However, there is a missing element in this story. I discovered it years later and it made me take a turn in my life, the spiritual relationship with food.
From Balance to Unbalance
It was in 2009, when I moved to London, that the rhythm of my life changed drastically. I went from being a normal school teacher to working three part-time jobs and studying for my master's to be able to teach at universities, which I believed was my dream at that time. After months of intense work and frenetic rhythm, my physical body changed. I didn't have time to eat well and no money to buy fresh organic food. Many times, I had to eat rice and frozen foods. Consequently, I lost a lot of weight and my health was delicate. My immune system was weakened, leading to more colds and infections. I felt mentally drained, physically exhausted, and emotionally isolated.
Two years later, after finishing my program, I met my husband who was coming from the USA for business. Six months later, I moved to Maryland with him and started a new life there. Following my husband's habits, I started eating unhealthy foods, increasing the sugar and caffeine in my diet, resulting in me gaining weight. When we moved from Baltimore to Annapolis, I recovered my healthy routine. My body came back to a normal weight and I felt refreshed, but not for so long. Several years later, I became pregnant and again started eating not as healthy as I should.
After having my daughter, we moved to Texas and there I started consuming more beef. I started experiencing digestive problems and developed an ovarian tumor. My life was tumbling, I felt emotionally all over the place, but deep down something inside gave me hope that what I was experiencing could be temporary and it was possible to heal.
From Unbalance to Balance
One morning I woke up and felt the shift. I felt that everything that I was experiencing was the mirror of not making time to take care of myself. I was living a life that was not mine, just dedicated to pleasing others. I was committed to finding my real essence, and whatever happened was a blessing in disguise to push me to change my life.
Deciding to make radical changes in my life, I started practicing yoga (exercises, breathing prana, meditation, Ayurveda diet, …) and connecting with Mother Earth, including my first steps in the Shamanic world. I learned to feel the spirit of the plants and the animals, and I discovered my connection with my inner self.
When I returned to my doctor for a follow-up, the results were amazing. My left ovary was clean!
This miraculous episode led me to investigate what happened. I was motivated to figure it out so that I could help others heal.
From Balance to Liberation
From that moment, my life changed completely. I committed myself to the study of healing across the board, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I became a life coach in areas of nutrition, yoga, shamanism, mindset, mindfulness, relationships, and spirituality. Furthermore, I became an energy practitioner and certified in hypnotherapy and NLP.
One year ago, I opened my new holistic school The Mind, Body, and Spirit, an International accredited school by the International Association of Therapists where people can receive coaching, healing, and taking courses from different modalities.
One of my signatures is the 7 Pathways, which is inspired by my transformational journey. Each pathway represents one of the 7 chakras. On each chakra, students will learn what to eat to heal physically, plus what kind of therapies and techniques to heal the mind, and spirit. At the end of the chakras, they will reach the frequency and the peak of enlightenment, the final liberation, the one I found through this intense transformation.
